“Water System and Desk Supply Initiatives”

…. ActionAid Zambia Enhances Education Access in Nalolo District

By Francis Maingaila

Nalolo, Zambia24 (22-04-2024) – ActionAid Zambia recently finalized and handed over a water reticulation system, valued at over K190,000, to Muoyo Primary School in Nalolo District.

Despite an enrollment of 1,450 pupils, the school had been without water since 2012. This critical intervention aims to create a conducive learning environment, recognizing education as a fundamental human right rather than a privilege.

At the handing-over ceremony in Nalolo, Interim Country Director Jovina Nawenzake emphasized ActionAid’s commitment to supporting quality education.

In addition to the water system, ActionAid also provided 300 desks to schools in the district, including Lyamutinga, Lipaa, Mukukutu, and Nasiwayo.

Acting Nalolo District Commissioner Mwendabai Muyunda received these supplies, which are valued at over K510,000. Furthermore, Nawenzake highlighted ongoing efforts to construct girls’ boarding houses at Sianda and Muoyo schools.

Importantly, Nawenzake underscored that while ActionAid offers vital support, the ultimate responsibility for ensuring quality education lies with the government.

“This collaboration between ActionAid and local authorities exemplifies a concerted effort to address infrastructure and resource gaps in education, ultimately striving for equitable access to quality schooling for all students in Nalolo District.”
