Vice president Wina votes with UPND in Parliament

Inonge Wina

VICE-PRESIDENT Inonge Wina and PF Roan member of parliament yesterday voted with the majority opposition members for a motion urging the government to expedite payment of benefits to former government workers who retired prior to January 5, 2016.

VICE-President Wina, however, has apologised in Parliament this afternoon for voting with the opposition.

The majority PF members of parliament (83) rejected the motion that was supported by 58 lawmakers, mainly from the UPND.

UPND Mazabuka Central member of parliament Garry Nkombo moved the motion urging the government to expedite payment of terminal benefits to former government employees.

Kambwili seconded the motion that eventually failed because the PF voted against it.

Results of the secret electronic voting seen by The Mast reveal that Vice-President Wina voted among the “Ayes” for the motion.

And Nkombo commended Vice-President Wina for rising above partisan politics to vote together with the rest of the opposition MPs on Wednesday motion.

“Mrs Wina has demonstrated true leadership befitting a democratic dispensation. I further thank all the MPs that have continued to represent the interests of the electorates on matters affecting the country,” stated Nkombo in a brief statement.
