US GIVES ZAMBIA ANOTHER $500,000 FOR COVID-19 RESPONSE

Health Minister, Jonas Chanda has revealed that the US Government has given Zambia an additional 500,000 dollars towards the Covid -19 response making a total contribution of one million dollars.

Dr Chanda says the Ministry of Health will ensure they fulfill the pledge of transparency and accountability of resources committed by cooperating partners and stakeholders.

The Minister further says the European Union has also pledged further support to the Covid -19 pandemic and health sector in general based on a partnership model and in an integrated manner to maximise impact.

And Dr. Chanda in a statement availed to ZNBC news in today Lusaka disclosed that the country has recorded 854 new cases of COVID-19, as well as 9 related deaths, in the last 24 hours.

Dr Chanda said the latest record bring to 71,677, the cumulative number of cases, while the cumulative deaths have also increased to 983.

There are currently 6,654 active cases of Covid-19, of which 310 are admitted, with 43 in critical condition.

He however noted that the country has seen reducing numbers of people in health facilities for covid -19 stating that patients occupying the hospital beds are about 30 percent the lowest rates since the second wave of the pandemic.

Dr. Chanda also urged the public to adhere to the five golden rules and not relax.
