Socialist Party candidate Tripher Ng’andu came in third position with 1,849 votes while Chilufya Tayali of the Economic and Equity Party (EEP) managed a paltry 420 votes.

Hellen Mubita, returning officer in the Kabwata by election declared Mr. Tayengwa as duly elected Kabwata Member of Parliament.

And speaking to journalists shortly after being announced winner, newly elected Kabwata Member of Parliament Andrew Tayengwa said he will prioritize the proper disbursement of the constituency development fund -CDF- to ensure youths and women get their share of the money.

Nine candidates contested the Kabwata by-election, following the death of Levy Mkandawire of the UPND in November last year.
