UPND Posts First Major Electoral Victory In Kitwe

upnd-mukubaThe opposition UPND have posted their first major electoral victory in Kitwe, a ruling party stronghold. The local government electoral win may signal the waning support for the ruling party. It also sends some warning shots to the Patriotic Front their base is shifting towards the opposition.

Electoral Commission Of Zambia conducted local government elections yesterday with Mukuba Ward in Nkana Constituency of particular interest to observers.

The UPND candidate Graddy Simukoko scooped the Mukuba Ward seat after polling 438 votes with the ruling party’s Gilbert Mushota emerging second after polling 361. There were two independents in the race. Chibwe Kaputo polled 138 votes with Dorica Lungu managing 32 votes.

The UPND have also done well in Kalumbila, Solwezi where they have won the seat.
