Zambia under 17 boys football team have been crowned COSAFA Champions.

A 59th minute goal from Kelvin Phiri was enough to help Zambia mint Gold at the region five games in Lilongwe Malawi..

This is the second time Zambia has beaten South Africa at the tournament with the first being in the group stages with the same margin.

A tightly contested final against South Africa saw a number of chances created by Zambia.

Ian Bakala says winning gold and qualifying to the total energy Afcon set for Algeria is a double blessing.

And South Africa Coach Duncan Crowie described the game against Zambia as tough.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu described the victory as a sweet revenge after the girls team lost their finals to South Africa earlier in the day and settled for silver.
