Two cyclists die after a Power Tools Bus ploughs into them in Choma, police say

TWO cyclists of Simunyewu village in Chief Chooma in Southern Province have died while four others sustained injuries after they were hit by a Power Tools Bus in Choma yesterday.
The accident happened around 16.00 hours at Choma Division Police headquarters junction when a Power tools bus which was being driven by Andrew Musa aged 52 years of Garnaton East in Kitwe was overtaking improperly at a T-junction and in the process hit into a Toyota Hilux which was being driven by Clement Mukalanga aged 50 of Shampande Compound in Choma who is also a police officer in Choma.
“The accident happened when the driver of the said bus improperly overtook at a T-junction, in the process hit into the Toyota Hilux that was turning right consequently the driver of the bus lost control of the bus which then went off the right side of the road and hit into three cyclists who were cycling heading the opposite direction,” Katongo said.
Katongo said due to the impact, two of the three cyclists namely; Albert Sikabanga 31years and Aspen Mweetwa 39 years both of Simunyewu Village of Chief Chooma sustained multiple body injuries and died on arrival at Choma General Hospital.
She said that the driver of the bus sustained a deep cut on the upper left eye while the third cyclist Alvester Sikabanga 31years sustained painful right leg.
Katongo also said that two passengers from the bus sustained minor injuries and that the bodies of the deceased persons are lying in the mortuary and all the casualties are admitted to the hospital.
She said the driver of the bus has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
