TRUCK LADEN WITH 700 BAGS OF MEALIE MEAL DESTINED FOR DRC INTERCEPTED

The Ndola District Anti-Smuggling Task Force has intercepted a Scania Truck laden with 700 bags of mealie meal which was destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC-.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Peacewel Mweemba who has confirmed the development says the incident occurred on Sunday around 21:30hours in Tug-argan area along Kambowa road of Masaiti.
Mr. Mweemba says details of the matter are that the Anti-Smuggling Team received information from the police command that it was in receipt of information that some smugglers were intending to smuggle mealie-meal into the DRC using Kambowa road of Masaiti District and that upon receipt of the information, the team intensified patrols along Kambowa road, where around 21:30hrs they came across a containerized Scania truck laden with mealie-meal.
He explains that the smugglers upon noticing the presence of the police ran away leaving the truck which was then driven by the anti-smuggling team to Ndola Central Police Station where it is parked.
Mr. Mweemba says the mealie-meal will be disposed of through the courts of law after all formalities are done and that the team is yet to establish the owner of the truck.
