THREE JUVENILES BURIED ALIVE

Three juveniles have died after being buried alive at a manganese mine in Samfya District, Luapula Province.
The three who were pupils at Chamawala Primary School, died yesterday around 14:00hrs after part of the mine caved in as they were digging for manganese at Raah Mine which is owned by Women in Mining.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi said all the juveniles are from  Senior Chief Mwewa’s area in Samfya District.
Mr. Chushi has told ZNBC News in an interview that the three juveniles were doing Grade two and three at Chamalawa Primary School.
He revealed that the fourth juvenile managed to escape unhurt just before the mine collapsed.
The Police Chief says the bodies of the three juveniles were retrieved by residents two hours after they were buried alive and are now lying in the Samfya District Hospital Mortuary.
And the Ministry of Mines has dispatched a team of inspectors from the Mine Safety Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the three juvenile miners.
Mines Minister Richard Musukwa has regretted the death of the three saying it is wrong for a licensed mine to employ children.
Mr. Musukwa has told ZNBC News in Kitwe that he has directed the Mine Safety Department to immediately inspect Raah Mine and check its license for compliance.
He has warned that if inspectors find that the mine employed children, the license risks being revoked, and other punitive measures imposed.
The Mines Minister says government is worried over reports that both legal and illegal mines being run by foreigners in Luapula maybe posing a danger to local people.
