Three Die in Mpika Accident

FULL POLICE STATEMENT

Lusaka 28th December, 2018-Police in Mpika recorded a fatal road traffic accident yesterday (Thursday) 27th December, 2018 which occurred at 07:50 hours opposite Tusha Lodge along Great North Road 2km South of Mpika town. Involved was a Mitsubishi Pajero registration ACR 7831 driven by Miyambo Elasto Chishala 55 years of Casanova Mpika also of Chilonga Mission hospital Mpika who was heading South and a Toyota Ipsum registration BAA 6397 which was driven by Greenwell Chibesa aged 22 years of Tazara compound, Mpika with eight passengers on board heading North.

The accident happened when the driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero was in the process of overtaking unknown truck and collided head-on with the other Toyota Ipsum which was coming from the opposite direction. As a result of the collision Miyambo Elasto Chishala, driver of the Mitsubishi pajero together with two passengers who were in the other vehicle namely Alex Mangaba  25 years and Jordan Simutengu 22 years both  of Tazara compound,Mpika who had sustained head and body injuries were pronounced dead upon reaching Michael Chilufya Sata hospital.

The driver of the Toyota Ipsum and six of his passengers  sustained serious body injuries and are admitted to Michael Chilufya Sata hospital. Both motor vehicles were extensively damaged. The bodies of the deceased are in Mpika Urban clinic mortuary awaiting  postmortem examination.
