The deportation of PLO Lumumba has made Zambia a laughingstock of the World, CSOs say

THE Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) say Zambia is fast becoming a laughing stock internationally because of its undemocratic tendencies of deporting foreign nationals seeking to visit the country.The CSOs composing of NGOCC, ACA and ZCSD said this when they were reacting to the deportation of Kenyan Professor Patrick Lumumba who was scheduled to speak at the graduation ceremony at Eden University.They said government’s conduct is a clear demonstration of high levels of intolerance to intellectualism and dissent.The CSOs further said that the idea that government should always be in charge of what ideas its citizens can receive is extremely draconian and reminiscent “Professor Lumumba was scheduled to speak on the topic, ‘Africa in the age of [Chinese] influence and global geo dynamics’. The topic that Professor Lumumba was due to address could not by any stretch of imagination raise any security concerns.The issue of China-Africa relations is topical, particularly in Zambia where a worrying amount of debt from China has being accumulated, threatening public assets,” said the CSOs.
