TAZAMA pipeline repaired

Repair works have been completed on the portion of TAZAMA Pipeline that was ruptured by road contractors three days ago in MBEYA, TANZANIA.

Energy Minister PETER KAPALA says the full repair works were completed yesterday around 16:30 hours.

He says site restoration and environmental cleanup of the area where the Low Sulphur Gas oil was spilt will start soon under the guidance of the National Environmental Agency of TANZANIA.

Mr. KAPALA has announced this in a statement released to ZNBC News in LUSAKA today.

Meanwhile, Mr. KAPALA said 257 thousand litres of Low Sulphur Gas oil was spilled as a result of the accident contrary to the initial estimated One million litres.

He said this is significantly lower than what had been estimated and the amount is also expected to reduce further as the MOP -UP and Oil recovery exercise continues.

Mr. KAPALA also disclosed that the Director of  the Road Construction Company and the operator  of the grader that ruptured  the TAZAMA  Pipe Line in MBEYA , TANZANIA have been arrested and will appear in court soon.
