TAYALI CAUTIONS MOTORISTS ON ROAD SAFETY

Transport and Logistics Minister, FRANK TAYALI has cautioned all motorists and other road users to adhere to road safety regulations, road signs and rail signals whenever they are on the road.

Mr. TAYALI says the accident that occurred yesterday and took away six lives could have been avoided if only the driver of the bus had observed the ten basic rules of the Highway Code.

He however described the tragedy as unfortunate and Governments has sent condolences to the bereaved families and wished passengers injured a quick recovery.

Mr. TAYALI said the Zambia Police Service and TAZARA are yet to give the exact state of the passengers on the bus though preliminary findings are that the fatal accident has
claimed lives of five passengers.

And, TAZARA Mpika Regions Manager, KAMBANI NDHLOVU disclosed that the Likili bus had approximately 65 passengers on board and six have died while undisclosed number have sustained injuries and are being attended to at MICHAEL CHILUFYA SATA Hospital.

Mr. NDHLOVU also disclosed that the train crew and all the passengers on the train are out of danger but that both the conductor and driver of the bus have died.

He said according to information gathered from the scene, the bus driver was trying to beat the TAZARA train at a level crossing while ignoring the speed humps.
