Tax The Mines Right -Mumba

By Ellen Hambuba-Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba has called on government to come up with right taxes for the mining sector in the 2020 national budget.Mr. Mumba says it is unfortunate that out of the nine mining companies which government has shares only Kansanshi has been declaring dividends.Mr. Mumbawho is also a Trade and Development Expert says government should re-model its business opportunities in the mining sector in order to maximize revenue collections.He says failure by mines to declared dividends through ZCCM-IH is robbing Zambians the revenue derived from natural resources.Mr. Mumba also proposed removal of subsidies on power supplied to the mines stating that there are a profit-making entity.He was speaking during a ZNBC TV1 Sunday interview program.And commenting on non performing parastatal bodies, Mr. Mumba proposed for partial privatization of the companies by finding strategic partners that will make them profitable.Mr. Mumba said there currently 37 Parastatal companies which are non performing in terms of profit making AND are not meeting statutory obligations such as contributing to NAPSA.
