TAKE FARMING AS BUSINESS

The Ministry of Agriculture has advised farmers to keep records of their activities in order to succeed and to take farming as a business.

Kasama District Agricultural Coordinator, Boniface Mwalongo says record keeping can help farmers plan and track their progress.

Mr. Mwalongo was speaking during the training of farmers in Sustainable Intensified farming practices -SIPs- under the Sustainable Intensification of Smallholder Farming Systems in Zambia -SIFAZ- Project in Kasama District,

Mr. Mwalongo said the district has low production due to poor planning and record-keeping which are key principles in practising farming as a business

He said farmers can use recorded information to track their cost of production, and also as a reference and learning tool.

And SIFAZ Project Agronomist, Ronald Msoni said the project is designed to address and provide improved farming practices that will increase production and productivity.
