STAKEHOLDERS ECHO VIOLENT-FREE CAMPAIGNS

By Reuben Chomba

Political analyst Alex Ng’oma says political leaders must heed President Edgar Lungu’s advice to practice violent-free campaigns.

Dr Ng’oma told ZNBC news that violence has no place in a democratic dispensation and must NOT be entertained.

He was reacting to President Lungu’s speech during the official ceremonial opening of the National Assembly where he said the 2021 general election must be violence-free.

Another political analyst, Aaron Siwale said political leaders have a role to play to ensure there is no violence during elections.

Mr. Siwale said it is important for leaders to avoid name-calling during campaigns but concentrate on issues.

Meanwhile, Young African Leaders’ Initiative -YALI- Executive Director Andrew Ntewewe said the direction taken by President Lungu must be welcomed by all political leaders.

Mr. Ntewewe said nothing meaningful can be achieved through political violence.

He further urged all political players in the country to embrace President Lungu’s call for violent-free campaigns in the run up to the 2021 general elections.
