SOME HEADMEN EXPOSED

By Prince Chiyuni:Some Headmen in Chisamba district of Central province are allegedly collecting money from their subjects as contibutions towards the on-going distribution of relief food by the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU.According to reports, the headmen are charging 10 Kwacha as contribution for transportation of mealie meal being distributed to hunger affected areas by the DMMU.This came to light when DMMU National Coordinator, Chanda Kabwe inspected some fields in Chisamba where the maize crop is wilting due to the dry spell being experienced.Mr. Kabwe said it is unfortunate that some people want to frustrate a well intended Government  program of helping people affected by hunger. He added that the mealie meal being distributed by DMMU is free of charge and NO one should be made to pay  as Government has already  paid for the delivery of the relief food.Mr. Kabwe has since directed Chisamba District Commissioner to ensure that those involved  in swindling  people are brought to book.Meanwhile, Mr. Kabwe has promised farmers in Malombe area of Chisamba  district  that DMMU will drill a commercial borehole in the area to alleviate the water crisis being experienced due to poor rainfall. He said this when he visited the area where People and livestock are having challenges to access drinking water. And, Headman Makupula has appealed to DMMU to ensure that a commercial water borehole is drilled soon before more livestock is lost.Headman Makupula said the existing boreholes in the area have dried up.
