Small Business Owners Complain Of Zesco’s Pro-Longed And Inconsistent Load-Shedding Schedule

By Brian Mwanza

Some Small business owners in Lusaka have complained of power utility, Zesco’s prolonged and inconsistent load-shedding schedule which they say is negatively affecting their businesses.

The businesses that include saloons, barbershops and restaurants that solely depend on electricity to operate have complained that there is no specific time as to when power is cut and restored, a situation which has resulted in them failing to plan properly.

Those talked to by told Phoenix News say they are making losses due to this inconsistency and are now failing to pay their rentals and utility bills at the end of the month.

The traders have since demanded that Zesco comes up with a proper load-shedding schedule to explain when power will be cut and restored and for how long.

But when reached for a comment, Zesco Spokesperson, Henry Kapata said the power utility is doing its part and ensure everyone shares the little available power been allocated.

Zesco recently revised the load-shedding hours from 4 to 6 hours.
