SIX MILLION KWACHA FOR DAMAGED MONZE-NIKO ROAD

By Mark Ziligone

Government has released 6 million Kwacha for emergency and maintenance works on some parts of the Monze-Niko road that have been washed away by heavy rains in Southern Province.

Southern Province Permanent Secretary, NAMANI MONZE says people in Namwala and surrounding areas have been cut-off from Monze District following the washing away of some parts of the road.

Dr. MONZE explains that the people in Namwala have been subjected to using the Choma-Namwala road for them to transport their farm produce and access medical services in Monze district.

He says Zambia National Service -ZNS-and the Road Development Agency- RDA- have moved on site to work on the road.

Dr. MONZE was speaking when RDA- Chief Executive Officer GEORGE MANYELE and a team of Senior officers called on him before inspecting some roads in the province.

And, Mr MANYELE said the agency working with ZNS has identified several roads that need urgent attention.

He said the province has experienced heavy rains which have affected several roads.

He explained that with the continued heavy downpour working on the roads will, however, be challenging until the rains reduce.
