SINKAMBA VINDICATED

Opposition Green Party president Peter Sinkamba says he has been  vindicated with the constitution court judgement on President EDGAR LUNGU’s eligibility to stand in 2021.
Mr. Sinkamba says he stated earlier last year when the debate on eligibility started that President LUNGU was eligible to stand in 2021.
He said this in a statement to ZNBC News.
He says Although Article 106 sub article 3 prevents a person who has twice held the office of President from standing again for that office, there is an exemption under Article 106(6)(b) that would make President Lungu eligible to run again.
Mr. Sinkamba explains that Article 106 sub article Six b states that a person who was elected to the office of President shall only be deemed to have served a “term” if he served for three or more years.
He says President Lungu only served for 18 months and did not therefore complete a “term “Under Article 106 sub article One as a term of office lasts 5 years.
