SIERRA LEONE PULLS OUT OF FRIENDLY

The Football Association of Zambia -FAZ- has cancelled Chipolopolo’s friendly game with Sierra Leone , which was slated for Monday after that country’s FA withdrew.

FAZ Communications Manager Sydney Mungala says the Sierra Leone Football Association -SLFA- has notified FAZ that they have pulled out of the match following hitches around travel arrangements and Covid-19 travel restrictions for some of their key players.

Mungala says Sierra Leone FA General Secretary Chris Kamara in a letter to FAZ has regretted the withdrawal from the highly anticipated international friendly match that was scheduled for National Heroes Stadium at 21:00 hours tomorrow.

The match was meant to be a dress rehearsal for Thursday’s evening clash with Algeria.

He tells ZNBC Sports in a statement that the team had challenges regards the release of its players who are playing abroad due to Covid-19 restrictions and the traveling challenges amidst the pandemic.

Sierra Leone are in Group L alongside Nigeria, Benin and Lesotho and were hoping to test their team before facing Lesotho on Thursday in Maseru.

CAF has directed that all matches be played at the same time in the final stages of Cameroon 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
