SIAKALIMA CHALLENGES UNIVERSITIES

BY TAMARA MUSWALA

Education Minister DOUGLAS SIAKALIMA has challenged public universities in the county to be more innovative.

Mr. SIAKALIMA says it is the desire of President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA that the school system in Zambia be of the 21st century.

He says most public universities have closed up to innovation.

The Minister said this in Kitwe today when he visited Mukuba University, which has started producing hand sanitizer.

Mr. SIAKALIMA said public universities must start thinking hard so that they can take the lead in being innovative.

And Mukuba University Vice Chancellor, FRANK TAILOKA appealed to the Minister to consider increasing the number of student loans to the university, especially in science courses.

MEANWHILE, Head of Department in textile science, BETTY KAKULA also appealed to the minister to recruit students that have done Fashion and Fabrics as a way of motivating them.

Ms. KAKULA noted that the number of students enrolling for Fashion and Fabrics has gone down because not too many of them have been considered for recruitments in the recent past.
