The Zambia Under-20 women football team has beaten Malawi 6-nil, in the first leg encounter of the 2022 Costa Rica world cup qualifier match.

The match was played this afternoon at Lusaka’s Nkoloma staduim.

The Zambians dominated play, scoring 3 goals in each half of the game, to register an advantage ahead of the reverse qualifier fixture next month in Malawi.

Striker Eneless Phiri scored a hat-trick, with other goals came from Evarine Katongo, Xiomela Mapepa and Lungowe Namasiku.

And speaking after watching the match, Sports Minister, Elvis Nkandu said with such resounding results, government stands ready to continue to offer support to the teams.

Meanwhile, speaking during a post match press conference, Zambia Coach, Charles Haalubono said the team performed extremely well and exceeded the target.

And Malawi Coach, Maggie Chombo said the loss is a blow to his team and he has admitted that a lot needs to be worked on, ahead of the second leg.
