SHEPOLOPOLO THROUGH TO FINAL ROUND OF AWCON QUALIFIERS

Zambia’s women’s football team has progressed to the final round of the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifiers after beating Malawi 3 goals to 2.

This means the should the Shepolopolo beat Nambia over the next two legs,they will qualify to the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The Shepolopolo who hosted the Scorchers of Malawi at the Nkoloma stadium have progressed on a 4-3 aggregate after a one all stalemate in the first leg played in Malawi last week.

Breathing fire, minutes in the first half the visitors found the back of the net through ASIMENYE SIMWAKA in the 7th minute.

Malawi’s celebration where brought to a halt in the 25th minute after Zambia’s export to Spain RACHEL KUNDANANJI scored an equalizer before adding her second in the 41st minute to put the Shepolopolo ahead .

2-1 was the score line at halftime as the Shepolopolo led into the break.

With both teams fighting to earn passage to the next round, Malawi scored their second goal in the 70th minute through WEZI MVULA but Zambia replied through LUSHOMO MWEEMBA who fired the winning shot from a set piece in 72nd minute.

And Chipolopolo Coach BRUCE MWAPE said the team did not put up the desired performance despite qualifying to the next round.

MWAPE said heading into the next round, the technical bench will find alternative solutions that will ensure the team is ready for the challenge against Nambia.

He has also disclosed that some foreign based players will be roped in to beef up the squad.

His Counterpart MCNEBERT KAZUWA said Malawi put up a good performance despite the loss.

KAZUWA added that the team has picked vital lessons that will be used to build on the team going forward.
