SHARE PROFITS WITH COMMUNITIES-MP URGES MINES

A Parliamentarian says calls by Chiefs in Central Province for government to continuously formulate laws that will allow the country to benefit from its mineral resources should be supported.
Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba says government should not make similar mistakes that were made in the past when issuing licenses in new mining areas.
Mr. Mumba told ZNBC News that mining companies should be made to share their profits with communities in which they operate.
He was however quick to mention that in doing so government should be mindful not to suffocate the operations of investors in newly opened up mining areas like Central province.
Mr. Mumba was responding to calls by the Chiefs in Central Province for government to compel mining companies to share the proceeds with local communities.
The Chiefs further complained to President Edgar Lungu that mining investor who are operating in the province have no respect for traditional leadership
