By Tamara Muswala

Stakeholders and the business community in the mining sector on the Copperbelt have praised President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and his government for revamping Luanshya Copper Mine Shaft 28 on the Copperbelt.

Businessman PHESTO MUSONDA says Shaft 28 is a major source of high grade Copper concentrate and Cobalt and once fully operational it will trigger the resumption of operations at the closed Chambeshi Metals.

Mr. MUSONDA added that the development will also have a positive impact on the economy of Luanshya and the Copperbelt because more jobs will be created and small businesses will benefit.

The Mine Workers Union of Zambia President JOSEHP CHEWE and the National Union of Miners and Allied Workers NUMAW President SAUL SIMUJIKA said the unions have received the news to dewater Shaft 28 with great joy because jobs are guaranteed.

The two Mine Union Presidents said the development will ramp up copper production on the Copperbelt and attract billions of investments in the mining sector.

Meanwhile Mine Suppliers and Contractors Association President COSTA MWABA asked government to prioritise local contractors in the supplying jobs to the mine.

And Kankoyo Member of Parliament in Mufulira, HEARTSON MABETA urged youths that will benefit from jobs at the mine to invest for their future.

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA yesterday commissioned the  dewatering of the 500 million  dollar Luanshya Copper Mine Shaft 28 which once fully operational will create 3000 jobs and produce 83 000 tonnes of copper per annum.
