Sensele: L/stone-Sesheke Road a Death Trap

IN its current state, the Livingstone-Sesheke road is a death trap, says a former district commissioner. In an interview, Paul Sensele said despite being an economically viable road linking the rest of Zambia to the Walvis Bay in Namibia, the PF government was not paying attention to its bad state.

“The road is slowly degenerating to its historical state where the almost one hour thirty minute to two hour distance used to take over five hours due to its bad state. The road in its current state is a death trap,” Sensele said.

He said with the rainy season around the corner, it would be very difficult to navigate the road.

“The villagers and some motorists along the road are now using tree branches to fill the potholes, which can best be described as gorges. What I have noticed is that the road from Kazungula, all the way to Mazabuka is perfect but from there, a motorist again gets slowed down. On the other side, from Sesheke to Mongu via Senanga, the road is also good but from Sesheke to Kazungula, it is hell,”

Sensele said.

He added that when a Zambian crossed into Namibia, they always got ashamed. Sensele said the Namibian government periodically rehabilitated the roads using the army.

“The PF government [should know that the Livingstone – Sesheke road] is a highly viable trading route for many Zambians and it needs attention if the cost of doing business in SADC could be made cheaper. As at now the delays in trade are being passed on to customers,” said Sensele.
