SEJANI draws the line

The Local Government Service Commission says elected officers have NO right to fire or transfer officers in Local Authorities.

Commission Chairperson ACKSON SEJANI says the commission has received numerous reports of officers being transferred by elected officials in Councils.

Mr. SEJANI says only the commission has the authority to transfer officers in the local authority.

He says elected officials are meant to provide guidance on policy matters while the commission is in charge of overseeing the welfare of human resource in Local authorities.

Mr. SEJANI has further revealed that the commission has decentralised the employment process in order to absorb human resource from across the country.

Speaking when he called on North Western Province Deputy Permanent secretary NAOMI TETAMASHIMBA in Solwezi, Mr. SEJANI said the decentralization of employment is meant to employ people with an understanding of the area.

And Ms. TETAMASHIMBA is happy that the commission is setting up human resource management committees in the province.
