Samu wins it for Maritzburg United

Zambian striker Friday Samu scored only goal of the game as Maritzburg United eased their relegation fears with a 1-0 win over Royal AM in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday evening.

The 26 year old Zambian international has now been involved in six goals (4 goals and two assists) in nine DSTV premiership appearances.

The Team of Choice dropped Rowan Human and Amadou Soukouna from the 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy, while AM featured Victor Letsoalo on the bench and handed Mfundo Thikazi a rare start.

After a bright start, There were no stopping the Team of Choice going ahead in the midway stage as Friday Samu carved out an angle in the area and headed home a pin-point corner-kick 22 minutes in.

Samu almost grabbed a brace when he headed a looping cross off against the woodwork.

Maritzburg had a strong closing period, as substitute Soukouna stung the gloves of Nyame off an equally telling strike though 1-0 was the final score.

The win takes Ernst Middendorp’s boys to 12th place on the log with 27 points from 27 games played so far this season.
