Safe guard environment – Msimuko

Peter Tembo-Government has encouraged citizens to safeguard the environment and help combat climate change, by refraining from conducting activities that emit greenhouse gases.

Green Economy and Environment Permanent Secretary JOHN MSIMUKO says it is important for citizens to harmonise efforts with government in addressing issues of the climate and contribute to national development.

Mr. MSIMUKO has disclosed that more than 46 percent of greenhouse gas emissions come from Eastern province and sixteen percent from forest clearance activities in the province.

He says these emissions are factored by deforestation and degradation due to wood fuel for household firewood use, charcoal production and tobacco.

Mr MSIMUKO was speaking in Lusaka today during a flag off ceremony of 15 motorbikes, Seven motor vehicles and one folk lifter by the Zambia Integrated Forest Landscape Project for Eastern Province.
