SADC committed to DRC stability – Lungu

President Edgar LunguPresident Edgar Lungu says it’s only through working together and sustained cooperation regionally and nationally will there be lasting stability to achieve shared developmental goals.

Speaking at the 9th high level meeting of the regional oversight mechanism of peace, security and co-operation framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the regional in Kampala, Uganda, President Lungu says in order to secure peace, stability and security of the DRC and the entire region, there is an urgent need to neutralize the negative forces and end the illegal exploitation natural resources.

President Lungu is also chairperson of the SADC organ on politics, defence and security cooperation says SADC remains committed to rendering its support to the stability of the DRC and the Great Lakes region at large.

He says SADC stands ready to work with the government of the DRC and the Congolese people in their quest consolidate peace and democracy.

President Lungu has further reiterated SADC’s continued commitment to UN peace keeping efforts in the DRC and the contribution of the Force Intervention Brigade.

He states that SADC is convinced that close cooperation with the United Nations and the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region is indispensible to the achievement of lasting peace in the region.

President Lungu   adds that securing stability in the region is also dependant on the complete disarmament demobilization of combatants.
