RPA  ON SCRAP METAL DEALERS

By Etambuyu Katota:

The Radiation Protection Authority- RPA- has advised scrap metal dealers to register with the Authority.

RPA Executive Director BOSTER SIWILA says scrap metal handlers, transporters and those who store scrap metal must get expert guidance from RPA before processing any scrap metal.

Dr. SIWILA says this is because scrap yards potentially contain radioactive materials that are harmful to the public and the environment.

He says there are many industries in the country producing scrap that must be registered with the Authority so that they are properly guided on how to process scrap to avoid emitting any form of ionizing radiation.

Dr. SIWILA says the Authority has also commenced screening scrap yards to check for radioactive materials.

He was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.
