Ricky Banda eyes COSAFA title and golden boot

2021/2022 Zambia Super League top goalscorer, Ricky Banda has set his sight on the 2022 COSAFA Cup Golden boot.

Banda who will be playing in his first Senior COSAFA Cup scored 16 to win the golden boot in the league last season.

The Red Arrows forward says this is a big opportunity for him and says the team are eying winning the tournament.

“The preparation have been going well, we have been pushing from day one, because our target is to win the COSAFA,” he said.

“This is a big opportunity, this is my first senior COSAFA so I will work extra hard. We working as a team and the morale is high in camp.”

“Yeah it is something I wish to carry to the national team, because as a striker you have to score whether in the league or tournament so for me, I need to score and maybe even come out as a top goalscorer,” he added.

Meanwhile Green Eagles defender Warren Kunda is grateful to finally get a call up after impressing at club level.

“I think it’s a big achievement for me and I just feel grateful. I have settled well and everything is going well,” he said.

“I’m really grateful and obviously I will keep working hard. Competition is there in the team and I just need to keep working hard.”

The Chipolopolo boys will join the Cosafa party at the quarterfinal stage where they will await Group A winners on July 12.

Group A comprises Angola, Botswana, Seychelles and Comoros.

The tournament runs from July 5th to July 17th in Durban, South Africa.
