REGION 5 GAMES: U17 COPPER QUEENS FALL TO SOUTH AFRICA

By Musenge Mulimba

Zambia under 17 girls team has failed to defend the COSAFA championship, losing to arch rivals South Africa 4-3 in the region five games’ final played in Lilongwe Malawi.

It was a hard fought win for South Africa as they came from behind twice before scoring the winner in the 84th minute.

South Africa opened the scores in the first minute of the match after Zambia lost concentration just after kick off.

Lucy KAJIYA equalised in the 14th minute.

JESSY ZULU put Zambia ahead 10 minutes later before South Africa levelled matters.

Substitute ZANGOSE ZULU put Zambia ahead, four minutes into the second half but South Africa again equalised in the 66th minute to make it 3- 3.

Zambia’s hearts were broken when ANDRIELLE MIBE scored the winner six minutes to time in what looked like an off side.

Zambian Coach NAOMI PHIRI said her team was robbed of a victory.

And South African coach VICTORIA MBATHA is happy with the victory after missing out last year.
