Red Arrows win Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu memorial Charity Shield

Bernard Nkweto/Chansa Kunda-Super League defending Champions Red Arrows have sent a warning to their rivals by beating ABSA Cup title holders NAPSA Stars One Nil in a thrilling SAMUEL ZOOM Charity shield match.

JOSEPH PHIRI scored the game’s only goal in the 31st minute against the run of play.

The lone goal saw the Air Men avenge the ABSA Cup defeat suffered at the hands of pensioners early this year.

The first half saw both teams kick off on a strong note as they both squandered opportunities to take the lead.

NAPSA Stars dominated matters before PHIRI, who was left unmarked fired past RODWELL MUKWANAYA as the game went into the half hour break 1-0 in favour of the home side.

The second half was played in similar fashion as NAPSA Stars couldn’t find an equalizer owing to the defensive tactical approach by Arrows.

One nil was the final score as Red Arrows commence their preparations for the new season with silverware in hand.

AND, Red Arrows Coach CHISI MBEWE says winning the charity shield is a boost for the team as they begin their title defence.

MBEWE says his side played well and said it was a great test to also prepare for the CAF Champions League.

Napsa Stars Coach PERRY MUTAPA says despite the loss the team knows what to expect as they prepare to commence super League action,following their return to the elite competition this season.

MUTAPA says from the performance he has declared the team ready for the 2022/2023 MTN Super League season.

He says the team put up a good fight and which will be between the two sides in week one of the MTN Super League season.

PHIRI was voted Man of the Match and pocketed 25 Thousand Kwacha.
