Red Arrows are Champions…Airmen thrash Chambishi to seal second league title

Red Arrows eased past Chambishi 4-1 on Sunday afternoon to seal their second ever Super League title in front of a buzzing home crowd at Nkoloma Stadium.

Ricky Banda headed in Benedict Chepeshi’s inch-perfect cross to put the Airmen in the lead in the 39th minute, scoring his 15th goal of the season.

Saddam Yusuf Phiri added a second just before half time, beating Menard Mhango at the near post.

Francis Kasaka pulled one back five minutes into the second half but Fred Soutra Tshimenga restored the two goal lead eight minutes later with a fine finish.

Second half Substitute, George Mandu sealed the result with a close range finish seconds after being introduced.

The win means Red Arrows have 67 points , sevenore than second placed ZESCO United with only one round of matches to play.

The title is the second ever for the Airmen who won their first 18 years ago, in 2004 under Mathews Phiri.

Chisi Mbewe’s men can make it a double when they face NAPSA Stars this Saturday in the final of the ABSA Cup.
