RDA awards contracts to two China Companies for Chinsali-Nakonde works

The Road Development Agency (RDA) has awarded two Chinese Construction Companies an over k1.4 billion contract for the rehabilitation of the Chinsali-Nakonde road.

RDA Director And Chief Executive Officer, Elias Mwape says china state construction engineering limited will a rehabilitate 103 km of the road  from Chinsali to Isoka under lot 1 at a total of over k785 million.

Mr. Mwape says China Railway Seventh Group Company limited will rehabilitate lot 2 which is 107km from Isoka to Nakonde including the urban section of the road to the border with Tanzania at a cost of over k713 million kwacha.

He says government received financing for the project from the African Development Bank which is contributing a total of US$193 million, while Africa Growing Together Fund will contribute a total of US$50 Million, with government providing US$12 million in counterpart funding for amounting to over US$12 Million.

Mr Mwape says the project implementation will be 40 months and the scope of works for the project will include among other things, clearing and grubbing, earthworks, bituminous surfacing related works and road signage and ancillary works.

Meanwhile Mr. Mwape has reemphasized government’s commitment to ensure the Kafue to Mazabuka road is worked on as soon as possible.

He says it is to this effect that the Road Development Agency launched the tender for the works for the rehabilitation of the 38 kilometer section from Turnpike on 17th August to September 28, 2018.

And speaking earlier, China Railway Seventh Group Zambia Limited Managing Director Li Songquan has assured government of full commitment towards the completion of this project which will result in the creation of 400 direct jobs.

And China State Construction Engineering Limited Managing Director Feng Wefbo has also assured government that his company will take all necessary measures to improve the living standards and protect the environment as well create 1, 000 jobs.
