Rainbow Party splits, breakaway party to be formed
A new party is reportedly being formed, breaking away from Wynter Kabimba’s Rainbow Party. According to well placed sources, Kabimba has fallen out favour with the party’s master minders hence the looming break away. On August 13th, 2016 whilst the nation was waiting for Presidential results, Kabimba who particpated in the election received a shock of his life after his running mate Dr Cosmas Musumali resigned from the party.
According to the source Dr Musumali on the center of the purported political party. He is reportedly meeting senior members of the Rainbow party from Lusaka and Copperbelt, the move which made Kabimba’s faction to retaliate and announce suspensions of some senior party officials earlier this week.
Musumali allegedly chaired a meeting on August 23rd 2016, at a named house near Co-operative college and adressed some of those who are willing to join the party. Among those who attended the meeting are Losing Chingola constituency Rainbow Parliamentary candidate MacDonald Mulongoti who has since even resign from Rainbow, Sensio Banda, Patrick Phiri and other parliamentary losing candidates.
However those who have broken away are still in doubt whether Musumali has what it takes to run an opposition party especially gauging him with the performance during the his time as Deputy Secretary General.
The source said Musumali’s inexperience in politics is casting doubts on so of those willing join the party but may question his leadership. The master minders of the new party have allegedly asked Musumali to stand in and be the torch bearer.
So far after Musumali’s resignation, Rainbow has stormed by defections which include Mulongoti and Munali Parliamentary candidate who have indicated their next move
