PTAZ Stresses Underscores Importance Of Empowering Local People In Fuel Subsector

By Tinkerbel Mwila

The Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia –PTAZ- is calling on the UPND government to fully implement the statutory instrument (SI) on local empowerment in order to create more jobs for the locals.

PTAZ General Secretary Benson Tembo says the actualization of this SI would empower more Zambians in the fuel sub-sector thereby creating more jobs for the locals.

In an interview with Phoenix Business News, Mr. Tembo explains that the actualization of the SI would also enable the government to collect more revenue through its agencies.

He further says the actualization of this SI will help oil marketing companies who have continued being denied 100 percent business despite the SI on bulk cargo indicating that 50 percent of their transportation business should be given to locals to benefit.

And Mr. Tembo says the involvement of foreign contractors in the business should only be done on a sub-contracting basis.
