Prudential act to save life

Ngoma says the launched SAFE STEPS Road Safety Africa Campaign initiative will not only raise awareness but also provide lifesaving educational content to road users and local communities alike.

14-03-2022 – (Lusaka) – Prudential Life Assurance Zambia in conjunction with like-minded partners including the Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA), the Zambia Safety Agency, and Prudential Foundation on Tuesday officially launched a SAFE STEPS Road Safety Africa Campaign an initiative aimed at raising awareness and providing lifesaving educational content to road users and local communities alike.
Prudential Life Assurance Zambia Chief Operations Officer (COO) Raymond Ngoma told journalists during the launch of an initiative that the alarming level of road traffic accidents which has claimed so many lives could be avoided or mitigated with consistent use of visible educational material, equipment, road signage, and emergency services.
He maintained that visibility and constant reminders road users of what they need to know regarding safety on the road was key
He said Prudential Life Assurance has made great progress in the awareness activities, including donations to the ZAPD with much-needed mobility aids to people with disabilities, collaboration with the Zambia Motorsport Rally, installation of pedestrian crossings in conjunction with the Zambia Road.
He said Prudential Life Assurance Zambia will continue to donate to the Zambia persons with Disabilities and put up 3 zebra crossings through Zambia Road safety Trust, which is now our new partner.
He said Prudential believes in an all-inclusive approach to Road safety, with the assistance of our partners, we will be creating more road signage that specifically speaks to areas that affect people with disabilities and sensitizing the public, prominent markers that show children’s crossings and overall send out information and awareness messages on road traffic safety.
He said Safety Trust and multiple community sensitization projects in partnership with the
Road Transport and Safety Agency will the solution the country needs to save lives.
He said Prudential Life Assurance Zambia will continue the initiative in Zambia to bridge the huge gap that needs to be filled and make roads safer.
Ngoma said who spoke for and on behalf of the Chief executive officer Kachizyas Kwenda said since inception, Prudential Life Assurance Zambia so far spent a total of k2 million in the sensitizations campaign against road carnage.
Ngoma explained that Prudential life Assurance Zambia Working with partners hopes to reach out to over 8 million people.
Ngoma observed accidents that have claimed more lives in the country can easily be prevented by using visible materials.
He said prudential not only donating materials to road users but also providing lessons to citizens who are the most vulnerable to road accidents.
He said with the help of partners, Prudential Life Assurance Zambia will provide the road material aimed at protecting the health of the people.

And Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) welcomed the launch of safe step campaign initiatives.
RTSA Director and CEO Gladwell Banda told journalists that the task to protect the people is not an exclusive preserve of RTSA but for all citizens.

And the Zambia Road Safety Trust Daniel Mwamba promised his organization will do all it can to ensure the project of road safety in the country become a reality.
Mwamba told journalists at the same event that road traffic accidents have claimed many lives in Zambia compared to anyone other known cause resulting in the serious social and economic cost of the country, including the increased budgetary allocation.

He said in the recent past, the company has partnered with other like-minded organizations to improve the road infrastructure including signage to make the roads visible.

Zambia motorsports president Sam Chingambu observed that making roads secure is key to serving life in communities.
Chingambu said the Association has dedicated programs aimed at promoting safety measures and will continue to ensure that road safety is a priority.

He said the projects introduced aimed was a positive step in the right direction which Prudential Life Assurance Zambia has introduced.
Meanwhile, the cycling association of Zambia is pleased with the initiative aimed at protecting the road users in the country
Association president Andrew Chibale said Cycline in Zambia is slowly becoming not only a source of livelihood in Zambia besides recreational and transport
Unfortunately, Chibale said cyclists are not always given the respect they deserve
