Provide women with financial help,Graca urges women bankers

Ruth Cayinda-Graca Machel Trust Founder and Chair GRACA MACHEL has challenged women in the banking sector to work at improving the welfare of women through the provision of affordable financial services.

Ms. MACHEL says it is important for the banking sector to identify barriers that are affecting women’s financial inclusion so that they are effectively addressed.

The Former Mozambique first lady says she wants to amplify women’s movements, influence governance and promote women’s contributions and leadership in the economic, social and political space in Africa.

Ms. MACHEL said this during the women leadership for financial inclusion and economic recovery project agenda in Lusaka which was held for women from the banking sector.

She also commended Zambia for having three women heading commercial banks while two women are Chairperson of boards saying it is a beginning in the change of the narrative.

And Bankers Association of Zambia -BAZ- Chairpersons MIZINGA MELU said remarkable progress has been made in bridging the gap and up scaling of women’s Leadership roles in the economy.

Ms. MELU said the banking sector continues to ponder ways to enhance financial inclusion for all and promote women’s leadership in positions of decision making especially within the financial sector.

Speaking also during the meeting , Expert Leaders Group Member – Zambia TUKIYA KANKASA-MABULA said there is need to strengthen women’s leadership in accelerating financial inclusion in Zambia.
