PRIVATE INVESTMENT TO BE ENCOURAGED IN ENERGY- CHIBWE

Energy Minister PETER CHIBWE says his ministry will focus on creating an environment that will attract private investment in the provision of services and  local manufacturing of energy products.

Mr CHIBWE says the promotion of the diversification of the energy mix should not be left to Government alone.

He has urged the private sector to ensure that the benefits that come with Government providing a conducive environment accrue to the public through the provision of quality and affordable energy services.

Mr CHIBWE said this in a speech read on his behalf by his Permanent Secretary VERONICA MWICHE during the 2021 energy week exhibition which is been held under the theme sustainable energy a key driver to economic development.

And European Union Delegation to Zambia and COMESA charge De affairs BRUNO HANSES said the energy sector represents the most important investment for development for Zambia – European Union partnership.

Mr HANSES said the European Union has contributed more than 5 billion kwacha over the past 7 years.

And ZESCO Managing director VICTOR MUNDENDE said zesco continues to embark on several infrastructure development projects across the electricity chain.

Mr MUNDENDE said the company is on course to realizing its vision of becoming the hub of electricity trading by 2025.
