Prisoners May Soon Start Voting

The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ says it is putting in place modalities to provide a voting platform to inmates ahead of the 2021 general elections.ECZ Chief Elections Officer Patrick Nshindano says that once the modalities are finalized, all political players will be engaged to bring about smooth running of elections and grant inmates their constitutional right to vote.Mr. Nshindano told ZNBC News in a telephone interview that the process stalled due to non static nature of inmates and allocation of polling stations in the correctional facilities.He said the commission is working tirelessly to rectify modalities and ensure that the electoral process is NOT compromised.Mr. Nshindano also disclosed that ECZ will conduct robust voter registration which includes mobile, static and online registration to meet the targeted number of registered voters countrywide.He further said the commission will conduct vigorous voter education and called on members of the public to play their role for the electoral process to be a success.
