PRIORITISE SAFETY – NKOMBO

By Justine Akakulubelwa:

Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Gary Nkombo, says there is a need to prioritize fire safety and rescue services in the country.

Mr. Nkombo has therefore praised the Livingstone City Council for building modern dormitories for its fire and rescue officers.

He has however advised the residents of Livingstone to be law abiding by adhering to set boundaries and respecting road reserves when constructing their structures.

Mr Nkombo says illegal constructions and encroachments make it difficult for the fire rescue vehicles and service equipment to access locations of need.

The Minister said this in Livingstone when he commissioned the Fire Brigade Dormitories, which the council has built using the local government Equalization fund.

And Livingstone Mayor, Constance Muleabai, said the new dormitories will enhance the operations of the council fire brigade.

Ms. Muleabai said the local authority is also committed to expanding fire services in the district by creating two fire stations, one in Libuyu and another in Highlands Township.
