PRINTING OF BRAILLE JACKETS FOR BALLOTS COMPLETED

By Lucy Nampemba- Printing of braille jackets for ballots to be used by visually impaired citizens in the August 12, 2021 General Election has been completed in DUBAI, – the United Arab Emirates.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia says no Zambian should be disenfranchised on account of physical or visual impairment.

ECZ Director, Electoral Operations, ROYD KATONGO has told ZNBC News in DUBAI that the braille jackets will be distributed in all the 12 thousand 1 hundred and 52 polling stations.

Mr. KATONGO said the commission has lined up training for all poll staff to ensure visually impaired voters are assisted.

And the Non -Governmental Gender Organisations Co-ordinating Council -NGOCC- has welcomed the inclusion of braille jackets to aid visually impaired voters.

NGOCC Executive Director ENGWASE MWALE who is among stakeholders witnessing the printing of ballots in DUBAI has since called for massive sensitisation to make voters who are visually impaired aware of the existence of the braille jackets.

Meanwhile, printing of ballot papers and other materials for the 2021 General Election has progressed.

Forty five percent of ballots in all the election types at Local Government, Parliamentary and Presidential levels, have been printed.

ALGHURAIR Printing and Publishing which has been contracted by ECZ to conduct the exercise, is expected to complete printing by the end of next week.

Zambia goes to the polls on August 12, 2021.
