PRINTERS CHALLENGED TO SHOW CAPACITY TO PRINT BALLOTS

By Lazarous Sichula

The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- says local printing companies have to prove that they have the capacity and technology to print ballot papers.

ECZ Corporate Affairs Manager PATRICIA LUHANGA says the tender for printing of ballot papers is always done through an open bidding process.

Ms. LUHANGA told ZNBC news that there is nothing that STOPS local printers from participating in the bidding process.

Her remarks come after fresh calls that the commission begins printing ballot papers locally in line with the new dawn administration’s aspirations.

And PF vice president GIVEN LUBINDA says Zambians want to see if the promise to print ballot papers locally will be achieved.

MMD National Secretary ELIZABETH CHITIKA says her party finds it disappointing that the country is still printing ballot papers from outside.

Mrs. CHITIKA has told ZNBC news that the MMD is of the view that there is no better time to change this state of affairs than now.

Meanwhile Democratic Party -DP-vice president JUDITH KABEMBA has argued that there are more benefits that will accrue to Zambia if printing ballot papers is done locally.

And New Heritage Party president CHISHALA KATEKA says her party does NOT equally see any reason why Zambia cannot start printing its ballot papers locally.

But UPND Secretary General BUTEKA IMENDA has clarified that the ruling party’s promise to start printing ballot papers locally remains unchanged.

He has told ZNBC news that concerned political parties should be assured that the printing of ballot papers for the 2026 general election will be done locally.
