Prime TV is not any special from other media – Siliya

Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Dora Siliya has advised members of the public to desist from making ignorant comments on the suspension of the broadcasting licence for Prime Television.

Ms Siliya who is also Chief Government Spokesperson says Prime Television is not any special from other media institutions that have been suspended or closed down by the Independent Broadcasting Authority, wondering what the uproar from members of the public is all about.

Addressing a media briefing, Ms Siliya has advised those making statements and comments on the suspension of Prime TV to first take time to read the report which has details on where the media institution erred.

She says she is not in any possible to give a proper position as Information minister or chief government spokesperson on the matter as she is yet to receive the detailed report from IBA on the suspension of the television station.

She says though she is yet to receive a detailed report from the IBA on the suspension of the television station, she is however, optimistic that the IBA followed the laid down procedure before deciding to suspend Prime TV.

Ms Siliya adds that her office is not in receipt of any appeal from the two institutions recently suspended by the IBA.

And Ministry permanent secretary and IBA chairperson Chanda Kasolo says the IBA operated within the law in suspending the two media institutions.

Meanwhile Chief Government Spokesperson Dora Siliya has appealed to public transport operators to consider reducing transport fares in the wake of the recent reduction in fuel prices by the Energy Regulation Board.
