Prime TV appeals MIBS for review of suspension

Prime TV Proprietor Gerald Shawa has appealed to Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Dora Siliya to review the suspension of the TV station.

Mr Shawa says the 30 day suspension imposed on the station by the IBA is harsh.

He says the suspension is not the only the remedy available to address what the IBA termed as unprofessional practice by Prime Television.

In a statement obtained by Q-News, Mr Shawa has requested the ministry of information to review the IBA action and reduce it to a warning with specific guidelines as has been the practice with other institutions in past.

And Governance Activist Leslie Chikuse has described the Independent Broadcasting Authority’s decision to suspend the broadcasting licence for Prime Television as politically motivated.

He has told Q-News that this especially that the IBA’s decision followed the Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Mwila’s attack on Prime Television journalists who went to cover an event at the PF secretariat last month.

Mr. Chikuse has since called on government to allow Prime TV and other Radio stations to resume broadcasting with immediate effect and without any form of hindrance or restrictions.
