Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) chief electoral officer Priscilla Isaac has ended her 17-year association with the country’s elections body after she opted not to renew her contract which comes to an end tomorrow..

According to a statement issued by ECZ public relations officer Raphael Phiri, Isaac stopped work today and the Commission has since appointed the director of electoral operations, Chomba Chella, to act as chief electoral officer.

“Notice is hereby given to the general public that the contract of service for the chief electoral officer (CEO) Mrs Priscilla M. Isaac will come to an end tomorrow, Thursday 31st August, 2017,” stated Phiri.

“The Chairperson, members and staff have wished her well in her future endevours. The Commission has appointed the director of electoral operations Mr Chomba Chella to act as CEO.”

Isaac joined the Commission in the year 2,000 as a public relations officer  and was later elevated to deputy director elections and voter education before rising to her current position in 2012.

She becomes the second top official to resign from the elections body following the disputed 2016 general elections, after public relations manager Crispin Akufuna who left in February 2016.
