Presidential Milling Plants to stabilise mealie-meal prices

ZANIS—Government has instructed China Machinery Construction Company to expedite works on the Presidential milling plant in Monze District.Defence Permanent Secretary Steady Mwale says government is eager to see that the project was completed on time without any delays.He says that the plant will play an important role in the stabilisation of mealie-meal prices.ZANIS reports that Mr Mwale was speaking in Monze , during the tour of the Milling plant.He said that the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Health would work together to facilitate the transportation of building materials for the Milling plants that are marooned in  Dar es salaam Port in Tanzania and China due to the Coronavirus  Pandemic.Mr Mwale noted that the plant was important investment for government and people in Monze District as it would significantly help to stabilise mealie -meal prices as well as offer job opportunities to the local people.He implored traditional leaders and people in the District to support the project, adding that the District is lucky to have such a huge investment that will have interminable foot print for development.“I wish to urge the China Machinery Industry Construction Company to ensure they expedite works and complete this vital project as soon as possible. The government is in hurry to ensure that the prices of mealie -meal are stabilised so that every Zambian can afford three meals a day,” said Mr Mwale.He also assured the people of Monze that preference for jobs would be given to locals once the project is completed.“’ I wish to appeal to traditional leaders and Monze residents to support government on such projects to ensure that we deliver to their expectations, “he added.He said the Ministry of Defence would also double its efforts to invest in agriculture so that the milling plants are sustainable. The Defence PS  was also happy to note that the company was taking serious precaution measures among its workers against the Coronavirus.And Monze District Commissioner Cyprian Hamanyanga says people in Monze were grateful to government for considering them and bringing meaningful development to the district.He said the milling plant will offer job opportunities to Monze residents and thus help to reduce poverty.Meanwhile, China Machinery Industry Construction Company team leader Gong Laugchao said the project was at 80 per cent completion and is expected to be completed by July this year.He said the company would also offer technical support to the government for three years after the completion of the project.The Chinese government through its China aided projects, is constructing three Milling plants worth Millions of Kwacha in Kapiri, Lusaka and Monze all aimed at stabilising Mealie- Meal Prices in the country.
